Dr Flueck claims that "we know there are not enough resources to allow all people living at the low end to move up. Resources are not here to even maintain standards as lived now. In addition the population is growing." This is simply the old apocalyptic prognosis of humans destroying the earth that we have heard repeatedly for over a thousand years and it is as false as it is old. Resources are invented by humans to serve our needs and wants. People in rich countries such as Switzerland and the UK benefit from the fact that we live in places where it is relatively easy to engage in activities that enable us to create and use resources. People in poor countries are not so lucky. But things are changing. In India and China, for example, many more people are now able to develop and use resources than was the case two decades ago. As a result, there are more resources and people live longer and, presumably, are happier. The problem, as I see it, is not a lack of resources but a lack of understanding on the part of so many involved in the debate abour resource creation and use to understand the very essence of what they speak.
