There is a very obvious need to take precaution to preserve biodiversity but one should look at some problem in its whole. "stop killing wild organisms, and eat only those we farm ourselves. This wouldn't solve the problem, but it may minimize it" might not be of any help and have the opposite effect if we believe it should be a rule world wide. Here in third world countries we have a huge amount of biodiversity we want to preserve outside of protected areas where local people are actors in the biodiversity and live out of it. I have seen species of economic value for the people being banned of trade and disapear after because people ditroyed their habitat. I have also seen species beeing over exploited. The key point is indeed "the cost of attaining that information and/or the cost of delaying the decision" but also to make sure the precautionnary principle with local populations threatening habitat that taking risk on certain species might support much more other species survival. Talking of wildlife there should be a precautionnary principe which should be find the means to make sure REALISTIC measure (considering the human pressures on the field) have been taken to preserve habitat of specific species before all.
